Summary of Key Points
This summary provides key points from our Privacy Notice. You can find more details about any of these topics by clicking the links or using the table of contents below.
What personal information do we process? When you visit, use, or navigate our Services, we may process personal information depending on how you interact with us and the Services, the choices you make, and the products and features you use. Section 1 lists this in full, separated into what you give us, what the app reports automatically while it runs, and what is included only if you choose to send us a log file.
Do we process any sensitive personal information? We do not process sensitive personal information.
What about diagnostic log files? The app keeps a technical log on your own computer. Nothing in it is transmitted to us unless you choose to send it, usually by using the "Email support" button in the app. That log contains more technical detail than the app normally reports, including the hardware serial number of your USB drives. Section 1.3 sets out exactly what is in it.
Do we collect any information from third parties? We do not collect any information from third parties.
How do we process your information? We process your information to provide, improve, and administer our Services, communicate with you, for security and fraud prevention, and to comply with law. We may also process your information for other purposes with your consent. We process your information only when we have a valid legal reason to do so.
In what situations and with which parties do we share personal information? We may share information in specific situations and with specific third parties.
How do we keep your information safe? We have adequate organizational and technical processes and procedures in place to protect your personal information. However, no electronic transmission over the internet or information storage technology can be guaranteed to be 100% secure.
What are your rights? Depending on where you are located geographically, the applicable privacy law may mean you have certain rights regarding your personal information.
How do you exercise your rights? The easiest way to exercise your rights is by visiting http://www.efischarts.com, or by contacting us. We will consider and act upon any request in accordance with applicable data protection laws.

1. What Information Do We Collect?
In Short: We collect what you give us when you subscribe or contact support, a limited set of technical information the app reports while it is running, and (only if you choose to send it), the app's diagnostic log file.
The three subsections below describe each of those separately, so it is clear what is collected as a matter of course and what is collected only because you deliberately sent it to us.
1.1 Information you provide to us
When you subscribe. Checkout is hosted by Stripe, our payment processor. To create and maintain your subscription we collect:
- Your name
- Your email address
- The serial number of the EFIS unit the charts are for. This is required, because your chart keys are bound to that unit's serial number and will not work on any other
- The product you purchased, and the status and dates of your subscription
- Identifiers that let us match you to your Stripe record
Your card number and billing address are entered on Stripe's own checkout page and are held by Stripe. We do not see or store your full card number. We generate an activation code for you and store it alongside the information above.
When you contact support. Through our support form or by email, we collect your name, email address, your registered serial number if you supply it, the subject of your enquiry, and anything you choose to include in your message or attach to it, such as a screenshot.
Sensitive Information. We do not process sensitive information.
All personal information that you provide to us must be true, complete, and accurate, and you must notify us of any changes to such personal information.
1.2 Information collected automatically during normal use of the app
In Short: While it runs, the app reports how a chart download and USB write went, so we can tell whether chart delivery is working and help you if it is not.
These reports are identified by your activation code, which we can associate with your subscription. They are sent at the start and end of a sync and contain:
| What | Specifically |
|---|---|
| Subscription and session | Activation code, an identifier for the individual sync session, the chart cycle, the product purchased, and the chart regions it covers |
| Software environment | App version, operating system version, computer model identifier, and processor description |
| Transfer statistics | Number of files downloaded, skipped and failed, bytes transferred, how long the transfer took, and any error reported |
| USB drive | Volume name, capacity, free space and format of each drive written to; files and bytes written; write speed; and how long the write spent active, asleep or stalled |
| USB hardware description | Manufacturer and model name of the drive, its USB vendor and product identifiers, the USB version it declares, the link speed it negotiated, and the name and speed of any hub it is plugged into |
The hardware serial number of your USB drive is deliberately excluded from these reports. The app reads it. It is how the app recognises one drive from another on your own computer, but it is never transmitted as part of normal use. It appears only in the log file described below.
1.3 Information you send us when you submit a log file
In Short: The app keeps a technical log on your computer. It contains more than the app normally reports, and none of it reaches us unless you choose to send it.
The app writes a running log of what it is doing to a file on your own computer. Nothing in that file is transmitted automatically. It reaches us only when you deliberately send it, typically by using the "Email support" button in the app, which attaches the file to a message you then send yourself, or by attaching the file to an email by hand. If you never send it, we never see it.
Because it is a diagnostic record rather than a usage report, the log is more detailed than the data in section 1.2. When you send it, you are also sending us:
| What | Why it is in the log |
|---|---|
| The hardware serial number of every USB drive you have written charts to | It is the only reliable way to tell two identical drives apart when a fault affects one of them and not the other |
| Your activation code | Recorded at each launch and on each request to our servers, so a log can be matched to the right subscription |
| Manufacturer, model, USB identifiers, link speed and hub details for each drive | Slow or failed writes are very often caused by the drive or the hub rather than the charts |
| The volume name, capacity and format of removable drives connected while the app was running, including drives unrelated to EFISCharts | The app notes drives as they are connected and removed, which is how a drive that vanished mid-write is identified |
| App version and the exact operating system version and build | Some faults are specific to one release of the app or of the operating system |
| Free space on your computer, and the decisions the app made because of it | Chart cycles are large; most incomplete downloads are a space problem |
| The names of the chart files downloaded, skipped, verified, re-downloaded or deleted, and any error reported for each | This is how a specific corrupt or missing chart is located |
| Times at which the app was running, and network connections dropping and being restored, including the connection type such as Wi-Fi or Ethernet | Interrupted downloads usually correspond to a network drop or the computer going to sleep |
| Whether the operating system granted or denied the app permission to write to removable drives or to show notifications | A denied permission is a common cause of a write that appears to succeed but leaves the drive unchanged |
| Error messages produced by your operating system when a file, drive or network operation failed | These carry the underlying reason for a failure |
Every entry is timestamped, and the app keeps several rotations of the file, so a submitted log will normally cover the preceding weeks of use rather than only the session that went wrong.
The log does not contain your name, your email address, any payment information, or the contents of any file other than the chart files the app itself handled.
You can read it before you send it. The log is a plain text file. The app's help screen includes a "Show the log file in Finder" option so you can open, review, or edit it first, and you are free to remove anything you would rather not share, though doing so may make it harder for us to identify the fault. We use a log you send only to investigate the issue you contacted us about. We do not use it for marketing, advertising or profiling, and we do not share it with third parties.
1.4 Information we do not collect
We do not collect your location or GPS position, any flight, route or navigation data, your browsing history, advertising identifiers, or the contents of files on your computer other than the chart files the app itself manages. We do not sell your personal information or share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
Google API
Our use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
2. How Do We Process Your Information?
In Short: We process your information to provide, improve, and administer our Services, communicate with you, for security and fraud prevention, and to comply with law. We may also process your information for other purposes with your consent.
We process your personal information for a variety of reasons, depending on how you interact with our Services, including:
- To deliver and facilitate delivery of services to the user. We may process your information to provide you with the requested service.
- To send administrative information to you. We may process your information to send you details about our products and services, changes to our terms and policies, and other similar information.
- To evaluate and improve our Services, products, marketing, and your experience. We may process your information when we believe it is necessary to identify usage trends, determine the effectiveness of our promotional campaigns, and to evaluate and improve our Services, products, marketing, and your experience.
- To identify usage trends. We may process information about how you use our Services to better understand how they are being used so we can improve them.
- To respond to your support requests and diagnose faults. We process the information you send us when you contact us, including a diagnostic log file, if you choose to send one, to investigate and resolve the problem you have reported.
- To monitor the reliability of chart delivery. We process the technical information described in section 1.2 to confirm that chart downloads and USB writes are completing successfully, and to identify hardware or network conditions that cause them to fail.
3. When and With Whom Do We Share Your Personal Information?
In Short: We may share information in specific situations described in this section and/or with the following third parties.
We may need to share your personal information in the following situations:
- Business Transfers. We may share or transfer your information in connection with, or during negotiations of, any merger, sale of company assets, financing, or acquisition of all or a portion of our business to another company.
4. How Long Do We Keep Your Information?
In Short: We keep your information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this Privacy Notice unless otherwise required by law.
We will only keep your personal information for as long as it is necessary for the purposes set out in this Privacy Notice, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law (such as tax, accounting, or other legal requirements).
A diagnostic log file you send us is kept with the support correspondence it relates to, and is used only to investigate that issue. You may ask us to delete it once your issue is resolved, and we will do so.
When we have no ongoing legitimate business need to process your personal information, we will either delete or anonymize such information, or, if this is not possible (for example, because your personal information has been stored in backup archives), then we will securely store your personal information and isolate it from any further processing until deletion is possible.
5. How Do We Keep Your Information Safe?
In Short: We aim to protect your personal information through a system of organizational and technical security measures.
We have implemented appropriate and reasonable technical and organizational security measures designed to protect the security of any personal information we process. However, despite our safeguards and efforts to secure your information, no electronic transmission over the Internet or information storage technology can be guaranteed to be 100% secure, so we cannot promise or guarantee that hackers, cybercriminals, or other unauthorized third parties will not be able to defeat our security and improperly collect, access, steal, or modify your information. Although we will do our best to protect your personal information, transmission of personal information to and from our Services is at your own risk. You should only access the Services within a secure environment.
6. Do We Collect Information From Minors?
In Short: We do not knowingly collect data from or market to children under 18 years of age.
We do not knowingly collect, solicit data from, or market to children under 18 years of age, nor do we knowingly sell such personal information. By using the Services, you represent that you are at least 18 or that you are the parent or guardian of such a minor and consent to such minor dependent's use of the Services. If we learn that personal information from users less than 18 years of age has been collected, we will deactivate the account and take reasonable measures to promptly delete such data from our records. If you become aware of any data we may have collected from children under age 18, please contact us through our support page.
7. What Are Your Privacy Rights?
In Short: You may review, change, or terminate your account at any time, depending on your country, province, or state of residence.
Withdrawing your consent: If we are relying on your consent to process your personal information, which may be express and/or implied consent depending on the applicable law, you have the right to withdraw your consent at any time. You can withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us by using the contact details provided in the section "How Can You Contact Us About This Notice?" below.
However, please note that this will not affect the lawfulness of the processing before its withdrawal nor, when applicable law allows, will it affect the processing of your personal information conducted in reliance on lawful processing grounds other than consent.
If you have questions or comments about your privacy rights, you may contact us through our support page.
8. Controls for Do-Not-Track Features
Most web browsers and some mobile operating systems and mobile applications include a Do-Not-Track ("DNT") feature or setting you can activate to signal your privacy preference not to have data about your online browsing activities monitored and collected. At this stage, no uniform technology standard for recognizing and implementing DNT signals has been finalized. As such, we do not currently respond to DNT browser signals or any other mechanism that automatically communicates your choice not to be tracked online. If a standard for online tracking is adopted that we must follow in the future, we will inform you about that practice in a revised version of this Privacy Notice.
California law requires us to let you know how we respond to web browser DNT signals. Because there currently is not an industry or legal standard for recognizing or honoring DNT signals, we do not respond to them at this time.
9. Do United States Residents Have Specific Privacy Rights?
In Short: If you are a resident of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, or Virginia, you may have the right to request access to and receive details about the personal information we maintain about you and how we have processed it, correct inaccuracies, get a copy of, or delete your personal information.
